Lamborghini has the perfect answer now: the Edizione Tecnica It was limited to the Indonesian Market only and available in January It includes a matte black carbon fiber tail wing, matt black carbon-fiber engine cover, yellow body color, high gloss carbon fiber door pedal.
To mark its 50th anniversary, Lamborghini wanted to provide something special for the Indian market where they had found a good business potential, hence a limited edition of six cars based on the best selling variant of the Gallardo, the LP was created.
The LP Super Trofeo was updated for model year, inline with the Gallardo model refresh. The Gallardo is based on the proven chassis and mechanical platform of its predecessor, but takes a significant step forward following extensive aerodynamic re-profiling of the surface geometries and the addition of adjustable aerodynamic devices, including an all-new ten-position rear wing. If everything goes as planned in Italy, the new Lamborghini Gallardo or Stella, whatever they decide to call it, will be presented to a small group of invited Lamborghini owners and clubs from around the world during the 40th Anniversary celebration at the factory.
The resulting product has decidedly Lamborghini-esque design cues, but was also modernized with the latest technologies and refreshed with luxurious standard-setting appointments.
The Lamborghini Gallardo was designed and produced during the period when the automaker had just come under Audi ownership. The most notable byproduct of this relationship would be the Audi R8, with early versions of the model being closely based on the Gallardo. Over the years, the two cars would share certain components.
It featured a 5. At this juncture, all models would share an improved infrastructure based on the original car.
Due to popular demand, a brand new valved exhaust system was also fashioned to accentuate a more exotic persona, while having the option of being kept more quiet during city driving. The model year would see two more variants added to the roster, with the Superleggera and limited edition Nera being introduced. The former model is focused on weight reduction, as its name - which means super lightweight - would suggest, shedding over kg of mass with the extensive use of carbon fiber body parts.
It also features a slightly more powerful hp engine and comes standard with E-gear. The Nera was limited to just units and was available exclusively in one of two matte black finishes. This Gallardo was a thoroughly refreshed version of its predecessor, featuring a myriad of improvements from the ground up.
At the center of this would be a new 5. New headlights and taillights showcased enhanced and modern features, while a pointier and more streamlined silhouette gave the car an even more aggressive and exotic vibe. Thanks to the improvements in its design, the Gallardo was ultimately more effective at cooling, had a better aerodynamic shape and was a tad lighter 20 kg than the first generation car.
To accommodate the increasingly higher industry standards for comfort and luxury, the second-gen car also came standard with high-tech amenities and features such as dual-zone climate control, bi-xenon headlights and electronically adjustable seats. Optional features such as navigation, a rearview camera and a front-axle lift system were also made available.
Following the first generation blueprint, Spyder and Superleggera versions of the LP were introduced shortly after, appearing in and respectively. The Superleggera weighed just 1, kg and also benefited from a 10 hp bump over the other models. The former variant is essentially a convertible version of the Superleggera.
The latter variant is a rear-wheel drive version of the Gallardo, which would also become the lowest-priced model in the range when it was introduced in The Gallardo would also become the last Lamborghini production model to feature a manual transmission. The first appearance by the Lamborghini Gallardo in a sanctioned motorsport series took place in , when the car was entered into the FIA GT3 Championship that year.
The car was converted to rear-wheel drive to satisfy competition rules and was fashioned with Brembo racing brakes and OZ Racing wheels. The Gallardo was also popular in the GT class of the Japanese Super GT Championship, where it was also converted to rear-wheel drive and featured an engine restricted to hp and a twin-clutch sequential gearbox. In , Lamborghini created a one-make series exclusively for the Gallardo. The car used in the competition was known as the Gallardo LP Super Trofeo, which was a stripped-down race version of its recently introduced LP road car.
It featured a reworked chassis, significant aerodynamic enhancements, and slight tweaks to the engine to make it perform better under the increased strain. Prepared by the Reiter Engineering Group, all of these modifications could be purchased as a package via Lamborghini dealerships and added on to existing cars.
And with that said, a car like the Gallardo was always destined to be more than just a commercial success for Lamborghini. Within the Lamborghini hierarchy, there were also some concerns at the beginning that the Gallardo being exclusively all-wheel-drive, would hurt sales. This turned out not to be the case, and the company eventually produced a rear-wheel-drive variant in the LP anyway. Over time, the Lamborghini Gallardo proved to be generally reliable and problem free, particularly when properly maintained and not abused.
Taking elements from the Super Trofeo racer, this Gallardo featured carbon seats, sills, diffuser, mirror casing and assorted trim pieces, along with matte black paint, a new set of wheels, yellow calipers and that lovely rear wing. Quite simple really: a standard-issue bhp Gallardo built especially for Europe and Asia with a two-tone paintjob. Technically a Gallardo, though only just. Underneath the Sesto Elemento sits the same platform and drivetrain, with the same bhp as the Superleggera.
But practically everything else was carbon fibre, meaning the SE weighs in at just kg. We like the Sesto, very much. So did Hammond. Behind the scenes with the Sesto Elemento. Unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show in , this was simply a rear-drive, bhp Lamborghini Gallardo with the colours of the Italian flag draped over it.
That's it. The STS takes its name from Lamborghini's one-make racing series - which gives you some idea as to how bonkers this thing is - and gets a manually adjustable carbon fibre rear wing and carbon fibre quick release engine cover, lightweight forged alloys, red paint, and a bhp V It's also lighter than standard, too. Revealed at the same time as the new Lamborghini Gallardo's refreshed - and controversial - new look , this Tecnica includes a fixed rear wing, carbon ceramic brakes, and three exclusive colour combinations.
A fitting end for its most successful product, this little Lambo takes its name from the company's new motorsport department; the same department that looks after everything from GT3 to the Super Trofeo championship. It also becomes the most hardcore model in the line-up.
Underneath sits the standard LP chassis, with the same 70kg weight loss as the Superleggera, meaning it'll hit mph in 3. Then there are the racing flourishes: the huge rear wing that develops three times the load of the LP, a removable engine cover with a quick release system, Alcantara on the dash and seats, carbon fibre door panels, and a tricolore stripe running along the side. The pinnacle of sporting performance among the total of 32 Gallardo variants was marked by the Super Trofeo Stradale and, finally, the Gallardo Squadra Corse.
They draw a direct line from the competition version in the world's fasted single-brand race series, the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo, to the road. The LP Squadra Corse, in particular, demonstrated in several comparison tests just how outstanding the Gallardo still is. In specialist magazines from Quattroruote in Italy, through Car in the United Kingdom to Sport Auto in Germany, the Gallardo continued to prove right up to the end of its career that it was still the clear frontrunner in terms of performance, handling and driving pleasure, setting a best-in-class lap time in Hockenheim Germany and record lap times in Balocco and Vairano Italy.
With a stunning power-toweight ratio of 2. The carbon ceramic brake system guarantees unmatched stopping power. The Lamborghini Gallardo was sold in more than 45 countries across the globe. Two are currently in service with the Italian State Police. The Gallardo continues to prove its motorsport competence, racing in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo. Alongside European race tracks, this fascinating one make series has now also conquered the circuits of Asia and North America with its own series in those regions.
